Something's Missing ....

The folks at the Two Institutions blog noticed something missing from their children's' Sunday School lesson for Easter -- the Resurrection.

According to the folks at First Look, the Gospel is "simply too violent for preschoolers."

This is what they said in a letter (from the Two Institutions site above):

Â“because of the graphic nature of the Easter story and the crucifixion specifically, we need to be careful as we choose what we tell our preschoolers about Easter.Â” Further they say, Â“We have made this choice because the crucifixion is simply too violent for preschoolers.Â” They go on to justify their reason for this by suggesting that theories of cognitive development show that preschoolers are concrete thinkers and therefore Â“are simply unable to truly grasp what it means to die and then be raised again through the power of God.Â”

What a shame that we're not willing to tell our kids the good news of Easter! Jesus said to let the little children come to Him, didn't he? I guess the folks at First Look think he must have meant to let the older kids come to Him. I know my daughter understood the basics of Easter quite well when she was in preschool -- because we taught her. One thing I've learned in teaching - kids will always live down to our expectations. We need to keep them higher than this.

1 Warren, I am the owner and author of the blog that is linked to in this post. Thanks so much for spreading the word about this obvious omission in this curriculum. Let me make one correction, however, the blog we write is called Two Institutions and is not affiliated with any church, ministry or denomination. I believe that you might have gotten your info from the Henry Institute who has corrected this incorrect citation. Religions teach that old people to go to heaven when they die. They don't. Old people are reincarnated. It's children who go to heaven. 4 I heavily edited that last comment. I have no problem with people posting their comments; however, I DO have a problem with people using my comment section for their own blog. Get a blog and post your drivel, dude. This comment was so disjointed and wandering that I have a hard time even responding. Reincarnation is FAR from proven, and I disagree with the idea. "It is appointed unto man ONCE to die, and then the judgment," as it is written. So I reject the premise right away. To say nothing of the fact that there are no actual facts presented in this wandering article/book. Given that, I guess it's pretty easy to refute the "argument" made -- YOU'RE WRONG.
